Looking for something new to do in Boise? Whether you’re looking for an outing that’s educational, artistic, or eye-opening, these museums are all worth a visit. Even better, many of them offer educational resources, classes, and volunteer opportunities if you’re looking for ways to get involved in the community.
Discovery Center of Idaho | $12–18
Let’s start with something kid-friendly.Geared toward encouraging interest in STEM subjects, the Discovery Center has tons of hands-on exhibits designed for kids of all ages. They even have a “Young Learners” section for kids age 4 and under. It also hosts events and field trips—you can get special group rates.
Boise Art Museum | $3–$6 admission
The Boise Art Museum hosts both local and national work. Alongside vibrant exhibits, the museum regularly holds events for children and also offers a free online ArtReach program for Idaho teachers and students. The first Thursday of every month is a “pay what you can” day for admission.
Idaho State Museum | $3–$10 admission
History buffs will have a lot to take away from this one! The Idaho State Museum has interesting artifacts and plenty of interactive exhibits. Plus, it regularly holds events like “History Happy Hour.” Don’t want to go in person? "Defining Style: Western Heritage Through Fashion" is an online textile exhibit.
World Center for Birds of Prey | $5–$10 admission
Not quite a museum, but just as educational, this bird conservation site is a great spot to take the family. The center is home to a huge variety of birds of prey that you can see up close and personal and they have regular scheduled shows featuring animal ambassadors. They host 5,000+ school children on field trips each year, so you know they must be doing something right. You can support this center by becoming a member, sponsoring one of their birds, or volunteering.
